PRESS RELEASE
31 August, 1999FEGS casts CADfix web wider
FEGS has signed four new distribution and OEM agreements in the past two months which will open its CADfix interoperability technology to a wider international audience. These new contracts closely follow the recent announcement of FEGSs partnership with ANSYS which resulted in a mutual distribution and development agreement.
Cambridge-based FEGS launched CADfix formally in July and has already seen great interest in the solid modelling and downstream applications market. The new contracts with DAMT, Fluxus, Kuraki and CENIT will mean that CADfix will be available to a far greater number of engineers, particularly those performing FEA and CAM operations.
We decided to launch CADfix because we could see the value in formalising into a discrete product the data exchange technology we had developed over a number of years in FEA pre- and post-processing, says John Meaney, Sales and Marketing Director at FEGS. There was an element of risk involved, but the response we have had from the channel has entirely justified the launch and we are delighted with the strategic partnerships we have formed.
CADfix addresses the needs of downstream users of solid models by recognising that the data they receive from CAD systems is seldom in a readily usable form. So-called neutral data formats such as IGES go some way to putting this right, but inconsistent treatment by different CAD packages means that more work usually needs to be done before solid models can be processed. It is not uncommon, for example, for FEA professionals to spend over 20 per cent of their time reworking or even redesigning models before analysis can take place. This not only greatly reduces productivity, it also raises serious questions about quality control.
DAMT
DAMT is a specialist company offering products and services to engineering analysis professionals. The company was established in 1995 by Bob Johnson and Tony Ing, both of who have been in the FEA and modelling industry for more than 20 years. The sales and support deal with FEGS formalises a well established relationship between the two companies and will see DAMT working with new and existing CADfix CAE customers at home and abroad.
Fluxus
Fluxus was founded in 1989 by Michael Forster and Dr John Watson, and is a pioneering developer in the field of third generation boundary elements (BEs). BEs are faster than standard finite elements and particularly appropriate for thin-wall model analysis. Fluxus incorporates CADfix technology as a means of importing CAD data, repairing it and then preparing it for meshing within its own B3 code. Fluxuss customers include significant names in the German aerospace, gas and mining industries as well as a number of universities and research institutes.
Kuraki
Kuraki was founded in Japan in 1949 as a machine tool manufacturer, branching into CADCAM in the 1980s. Its MYPAC family of CAM solutions is now widely used, particularly in Japan and the Pacific region, with over 2000 customers and 6000 users. CADfix is used to import and check model consistency and to prepare model data for processing in MYPAC. Kuraki and FEGS have worked closely together to build a seamless interface between the two products.
CENIT
CENIT is Germanys largest CATIA reseller, and one of the largest in the world. The new distribution deal, brokered by FEGSs German partner ITI Deutschland GmbH, will mean that CADfix is available throughout the country via CENITs many regional offices.
Note to editors:
FEGS Limited was founded in 1978 by Dr Geoff Butlin and is an established name in pre- and post-processing for finite element analysis. CADfix is the fruit of FEGSs ongoing R&D in the field of data exchange over the past 18 years. FEGS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohio-based International TechneGroup Incorporated (ITI).
