ANSYS, Inc. and ITI Sign Development
and Distribution Agreement; ANSYS, Inc. Partners with
International TechneGroup Incorporated (ITI) To Deliver
Geometry for Analysis
Within the framework of this agreement is the joint development of common geometry tools aimed at improving the success of transferring geometry from multiple computer-aided design (CAD) programs to ANSYS®. With the increased number of CAD packages in use in industry today, the common denominator for the transfer of information becomes standard geometry formats such as IGES, STEP, and others. The relationship between ANSYS, Inc. and ITI is designed to utilize "best-in-class" technologies from each company to develop tools to drastically enhance geometry clean-up and "healing" processes. The result of this joint investment will be the development and distribution of new tools aimed directly at the most time-consuming and difficult task in the engineering simulation business: the clean geometry transfer between CAD and analysis.
"With analysis becoming a more integral part of the design process, it is important to customers that ANSYS software works with their existing CAD data. We are addressing the needs of the engineering community by creating custom tools that enable easy and effective geometry transfer," said Paul Bemis, vice president of Marketing for ANSYS, Inc.
"It is no secret that CAD models are driving more of today's product development processes," explained Don Hemmelgarn, vice president and general manager of ITI's Product Data Interoperability business. "With the growing number of design tools on the market, however, the interoperability gap with downstream applications, such as finite element analysis, is a very real problem. As a result, CAD models are being recreated at unprecedented levels."
The solution is based on ITI's geometry repair tool, CADfix(TM). CADfix bridges the interoperability gap by allowing downstream users to import, analyze, repair, and export CAD models to a variety of applications. "ITI is pleased to partner with ANSYS, Inc., an established leader in the CAE market, to provide a reliable CAD to CAE interoperability solution," said Hemmelgarn.
Availability
The result of the joint development effort between ANSYS, Inc. and ITI will be the deployment of specialized tools as early as the third quarter of this year. These tools will enable users to clean geometry and efficiently import it into ANSYS software. They will be sold and supported through the ANSYS, Inc. distribution network.
