TranscenData support European Initiative

TranscenData Europe has recently announced its role in the new European Union venture called 'Virtual Simulation Environment for a seamless integration of CAD/CAE into VR', or ViSiCADE. The venture aims to develop an intuitive simulation framework based on virtual reality technology. The expected outcome of the project will include the ability to integrate CAE and CAD tasks into virtual reality.

Funded by The Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme of the European Commission, TranscenData will be working with representatives from France, Germany, Ireland and Sweden. TranscenData Europe will provide licences of CADfix data interoperability software to each member of the ViSiCADE consortium to assist in the research and development process. "We are pleased to be involved with such a high-level European project and we believe that the project will re-inforce our status as a truly European enterprise," says Geoff Butlin, MD of TranscenData Europe.

Using IT to improve the product development process is not new and can be traced back to the beginnings of CAD. The main challenges remaining today include the improvement of individual steps and how to fit these stages together into one uninterrupted process. Many companies, driven by the considerations of product, cost and time-to-market, have invested heavily in CAD, CAE and VR in an effort to achieve this.

The system created will provide an intuitive virtual environment, enabling designers to upload CAD models, automatically and interactively deriving analysis models which can then be easily manipulated. The system will include automatic meshing and refinement strategies as well as interaction capabilities during the simulation. New visualisation techniques will be developed and included providing an intuitive simulation machine that assists the designer during a simulation loop.

As a man-machine interface, VR will provide an environment for engineers and designers that will enable them to evaluate and interact with the complex 3D data taken from simulations.

Dr Butlin says of the project: "In ViSiCADE, we are delighted to be working once again with Queens University Belfast and to be able to exploit our previous collaborative research on Medial Object technology. TranscenData's aim in the project, is to upgrade existing VR technology with the vital automatic link between original CAD geometry and abstracted CAE geometry."

About TranscenData Europe
TranscenData is the product data interoperability business within International TechneGroup Incorporated (ITI). TranscenData provides interoperability solutions that enable companies to effectively exchange, reuse, and share engineering product data among diverse software applications used throughout a manufacturing enterprise and its supply chain. TranscenData solutions are aimed directly at reducing and eliminating non-value-added time and costs associated with reusing product data.

TranscenData solutions are distributed worldwide through a combination of direct sales, resellers, and strategic vendor/OEM partners. Included among TranscenData's customers are Ford, Siemens Automotive, Kodak, Xerox, ABB, EADS, Loewe, BAE SYSTEMS and Cosworth Technology.
