Kodak selects TranscenData to integrate departments, customers and suppliers.

The Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) has selected TranscenData to provide its product data interoperability solutions. Kodak's Mechanical and Systems Engineering organisation will employ TranscenData's DEX Center( (Data Exchange Centre) to share and exchange product data. The DEX Center is an Intranet-based product data exchange management centre. DEX Centers enable leading OEM and Tier 1 suppliers to centralise, control and manage the flow of product data between a variety of departments, customers and suppliers regardless of that data's type, source or destination.

"At Kodak, we are always working to improve our engineering processes; the TranscenData DEX Center will help us streamline our processes for translating CAD files from one system to another, " said David Sherburne, Unit Director, Mechanical and Systems Engineering, Eastman Kodak Company. "It automates the procedure for moving files internally and externally so that necessary design detail can be accessed by all organisations involved, thereby improving our time to market. "

"The DEX Center solution will enable Kodak to make more efficient use of CAD models throughout design and manufacturing while slashing the time and cost traditionally associated with CAD model rework and transmission, " explained Tom Makoski, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for TranscenData. "This relationship maximises the strengths of both organisations fully, enabling Kodak to focus resources and activities on sustaining its position as a world leading provider of imaging products and services while allowing TranscenData to focus on delivering product data interoperability solutions. Needless to say, we are very pleased to have been entrusted with Kodak's interoperability success."

Editor's notes

The DEX Center is a collection of translators and data exchange tools pulled together into a customized, organized, secure data integration environment. A variety of tools (commercial or customized) may be plugged in to the DEX Center to provide the optimum translation path between dissimilar CAD, CAM, CAE and PDM software applications. Additionally, the DEX Center can include such functions as CAD model repair and healing, CAD model quality, and more. Data passing through the DEX Center is checked for quality, repaired, and prepared for the target system. Much of the process can be automated to reduce customer/supplier integration to the push of a button. DEX Center capabilities may include:
