FEGS signs OEM deal with Femsys
FEGS recently signed an OEM agreement with Femsys Ltd. This agreement will see CADfix, FEGS's leading data interoperability solution, become an input tool for FEMGV, Femsys's high-end mesh generator. Through CADfix, FEMGV users will be able to accept and repair data from all major CAD systems with confidence.
CADfix addresses the geometric and topological problems that arise when transferring CAD files between applications. It achieves this by assessing any imperfections in the model and correcting them, either automatically or interactively. This gives users the capacity to re-use CAD data quickly by reducing the data exchange problems.
The problems of data transfer between CAD systems are bad enough, but the data transfer issue can be even worse between CAD and analysis. Here, the downstream user has different requirements for the data, and the existence of perfectly valid short edges and small faces in CAD can cause serious subsequent problems for meshing and analysis.
FEMGV provides advanced tools for defining geometry, meshes, loads and boundary conditions for use in preparing models for a range of analysis applications including finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and boundary element methods (BEM).
The addition of CADfix as an optional input tool will ensure that the overheads of reworking and preparing CAD data for analysis can be reduced to an absolute minimum, or even totally eliminated, saving the analyst days or weeks of effort. Also, some models that were previously unusable can now be automatically processed by CADfix and exported directly to FEMGV.
As CADfix can rapidly convert unconnected surface models into BREP solids, side stepping the need for lengthy manual conversion, it will prove indispensable for many users of FEMGV. "Anyone who uses FEMGV to set up their FE analyses can now avoid the jeopardising of design intent inherent in reworking design geometry, by using fully defined solid models as a starting point," says Steve Attwood, Managing Director of Femsys Ltd.
Steve continues, "The increasing prevalence of solid modelling is encouraging growing numbers of designers to include FE analysis in their development process. In response to this trend the addition of CADfix as an optional input device for FEMGV will greatly reduce the time needed for the all important task of analysis preparation."
John Meaney, Sales and Marketing Director at FEGS says, "This illustrates the growing recognition of the power of CADfix. More downstream application providers are turning to FEGS and CADfix to eliminate the wasted time and effort of data reworking, allowing users to concentrate on the job in hand."
Note to editors:
FEGS Limited was founded in 1978 by Dr Geoff Butlin and is an established name in CAE software, particularly in the areas of CAD data exchange and pre- and post-processing for finite element analysis. CADfix is the fruit of FEGSs ongoing R&D in data exchange over the past 18 years. FEGS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohio-based International TechneGroup Incorporated (ITI).
ITI is the world's leading supplier of product data interoperability solutions, providing CAD/CAM/CAE and product data management (PDM) users and vendors with proven product data interoperability solutions. Headquartered in Milford, Ohio, ITI has representation throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
